One of the visual blights of the 21st century is the proliferation
of antennas necessary to service our mobile phones. Every tall
building, hill, mast or tower now sprouts an array of aerials,
transmitters and microwave dishes. The problem has now become
so acute that many local authorities are refusing planning permission
unless the equipment is hidden.
GRP has been shielding antennas for many years, usually for defence applications.
But its unique ability to simulate traditional materials while remaining ‘radio-transparent’ has
now been recognised by the mobile telephone industry. This is a sensitive area
as a result of health concerns surrounding RF transmissions, but our dependence
on sophisticated communications imply that, like it or not, antennas are a fundamental
part of life in the 21st century. |
Harviglass has been asked to produce antenna shrouds
which simulate, cupolas, chimneys, large signs, elevator housings,
trees, windows, stone columns, brickwork, slate tiled roofs,
doors, architectural ironwork and ventilation louvers. There
are few areas where GRP cannot provide a undetectable yet radio
transparent solution and with 40 years experience few companies
can offer the depth of knowledge this sensitive field requires.
